Richard Bolton

His accent gives him away. Yes Richard is English, now living in New Zealand after moving here in 2004 with his NZ born wife.

How well known is Richard, how well known is his art work – not well enough I’m afraid but it is a different story back home in his native Cambridgeshire.

Richard took up painting professionally soon after leaving Art College and has since become very well known in the UK. Richard has held a number of one man shows in London and Cambridgeshire. His work is held in public and private collections throughout the world. He has been a frequent contributor to the “Artist”, ‘Leisure Arts’ and ‘The Artist and Illustrators’ magazines in the UK.

Richard’s gift of watercolour painting has been recognized by collectors, artists and the commercial world alike. Such is his knowledge that companies such as Staedtler and Whatman have sought his assistance with artist’s products and demonstrating products. Richard has also demonstrated products at Olympia and other major art fairs. He has also written and illustrated a number of books on the technique of watercolours.

Recognized for his professional ability, Richard has travelled widely at the invitation of art groups and countries. Travel has taken Richard to China, Tibet, Taiwan, and Israel. Invited to travel to Israel on its 50th Anniversary and paint, the collection was then exhibited throughout the UK starting in London. The ambassador of Taiwan has become a big collector of his work. Richard has been a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Institute of Watercolourists. The St Ives museum holds a great collection of Richard’s paintings that stand with other historic painters.

Richard has won a number of prestigious awards. Saffron Gallery of Art in Timaru is privileged to exhibit Richard’s paintings.
